Georgia’s national judo team has claimed its second medal at the World Judo Championships currently taking place in Baku. Eter Liparteliani won the silver medal in the -57kg weight category.
The Georgian judoka delivered an outstanding performance, reaching the World Championship final for the second consecutive time.
Liparteliani began her campaign with a victory over Uruguay’s Maia Leopoldo. In the next round, she defeated Brazil’s Sara Souza, before overcoming Croatia’s Ana Viktorija Puljiz in the quarterfinals.
In the semifinals, Liparteliani faced Germany’s Seija Ballhaus. The Georgian produced a convincing performance to secure victory and book her place in the World Championship final.
In the final, Liparteliani faced Japan’s Akari Omori. The bout was undecided in regulation time and went into golden score. Although the Georgian judoka held the advantage on penalties, Omori secured the victory with a yuko from a five-second osaekomi.
Eter Liparteliani therefore claimed the silver medal at the World Championships, once again proving that she is among the world’s leading judoka in the -57kg weight category.
It is worth noting that Liparteliani competed in Baku as the reigning world champion. In 2025, she won the World Championship title in Budapest, and now, by reaching the final at the World Championships for the second consecutive time, she has secured another medal for Georgia.
Following the first three days of competition at the World Championships in Baku, Georgia’s national team has two medals — Giorgi Sardalashvili’s bronze and Eter Liparteliani’s silver.
