The Georgian national judo team finished the European Championships with a triumph. On the final, fourth day of the competition, Guram Tushishvili became European champion in the +100 kg weight category, defeating two-time Olympic champion Lukáš Krpálek of the Czech Republic in the final.
With this victory, he secured the fourth gold medal for the Georgian team at this championship — a record in the history of Georgian judo. Previously, the highest number of gold medals won by Georgian judokas at European Championships was three, achieved in 1993 and 2013.
On the same day, Ilia Sulamanidze won a bronze medal in the -100 kg weight category.
As a result, the Georgian team finished first in the overall team standings with 4 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze medal. France took second place with 2 gold, 4 silver, and 6 bronze medals, while Russia finished third with 2 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze medals.
