The Georgian national judo team has become world champion. At the World Mixed Team Championships held in Budapest, Hungary, the Georgian judokas defeated South Korea 4-1 in the final to claim the gold medals.
With this victory, Georgia ended Japan’s long-standing dominance in the team event. Since the introduction of this format in 2017, the Japanese team had been the consistent winners of the championship, winning it seven times in a row.
The Georgian team faced Japan in the semifinals and won 4-2. Prior to that, they defeated China 4-1 and Italy 4-0.
